 <\/p>\n

You\u2019re a lit match<\/em>, you insist,<\/span><\/p>\n

deeming my hair a golden flame,<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

our body heat blurring the air,<\/span><\/p>\n

breath fogging the windows.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Last week, I held a conch shell<\/span><\/p>\n

up to my ear to hear the distant ocean,<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

and you said the wash of waves<\/span><\/p>\n

was the sound around us, resonating<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

within the shell I held. And, now, I lift<\/span><\/p>\n

the sea of your hair, expose the nape<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

of your neck to cold air, fervid lips.<\/span><\/p>\n

I want to give my body away<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

to the forces that render me<\/span><\/p>\n

bodiless, by which I mean inhuman:<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

no pain, only pleasure, only a body<\/span><\/p>\n

convulsing under the weight<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

of your touch. The fire spreading<\/span><\/p>\n

within me beautiful as a burning<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

field, the spectacle of dry grass<\/span><\/p>\n

turning animate, smoke spiraling<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

into the slate-colored sky.<\/span><\/p>\n

Being unmade into black<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

silt. In this red Civic curbed on the side<\/span><\/p>\n

of this quiet road, your lolling tongue<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

reignites this fire in me. I want to drown<\/span><\/p>\n

in your sweat-slicked skin, sear<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

in the heat of your hands. I want<\/span><\/p>\n

to give in to the catch, latch, lock<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

of my throat, the waves rolling over<\/span><\/p>\n

me, over me, over.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n
